- A dozen of Netflix’s upcoming releases are from the DC Extended Universe
- Fans are raving about the arrival of popular films She’s the Man and Lucy
- People have begun angrily comparing Netflix to Max, which now offers some of the same movies
Netflix is shaking things up this holiday season by adding 12 DC Extended Universe films on December 1, including The Batman, Birds of Prey and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Two other films arriving on the streaming service that have gotten fans riled up are She’s the Man and Lucy.
Reactions to the upcoming list have been, at best, mixed on social media. Many are complaining about the poor reviews the DC movies received in theaters and the fact other streaming services offer the films.
People have begun comparing Netflix to Max – that already airs DC movies – and have even threatened to cancel their subscriptions because of the list.
According to the Netflix blog, users should remember that movie named as coming soon are part of a ‘live post,’ meaning the streaming service will update it throughout November and into December.
The Batman with Robert Pattinson grossed $771 million at the box-office. The sequel The Batman – Part II is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 3, 2025
She’s the Man starring Amanda Bynes has become a cult classic, and also helped film star Channing Tatum gain wide media attention in the entertainment industry
The DC collection released its first film, Man of Steel, in June 2013 and was met with mixed reviews and a $668 million worldwide box office total.
Despite DC movies being the ninth-highest-grossing film franchise of all time at $6.7 billion, it’s released eight box-office bombs, it’s latest being the 2023 film Blue Beetle that made only $129.3 million worldwide last summer.
Other box-office bombs include Wonder Woman 1984, Black Adam, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
The DC universe will conclude with the upcoming film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom starring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard- the highly anticipated sequel to 2018’s Aquaman that made a whopping $1.15 billion at the box office.
The movie will be released in theaters everywhere on December 22.
But for now, fans will have to turn to Netflix to catch-up or get their fill of DC movies. There will also be plenty of non-superhero movies coming to the platform in December. Here is a selection of releases joining the streaming service:
- The Batman
- Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice
- Birds of Prey
- The Commuter
- Hunter Killer
- I Can Only Imagine
- Justice League
- The Meg
- The Suicide Squad
- The Super Mario Bros Movie
- Wonder Woman
- Wonder Woman: 1984
People on social media have been reacting harshly toward the list of movies coming to Netflix next month
Social media has shown their disapproval over the latest films coming to the platform.
‘Oh yay! Lackluster movies we’ve all seen,’ said one user on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Most people who dislike the list have been comparing to Netflix on Max since it’s that streaming platform that usually has the DCEU films available for people to stream.
One person tweeted: ‘Batman v. Superman and Suicide Squad? Isn’t this supposed to be in HBO?’
Other people have tweeted there dislike toward all movies coming out next month on Netflix, one user even tweeting that Netflix is ‘so finished.’
